Mirrors are a great design element to add to your space, making a big difference to your room. When it comes to selecting the perfect mirror for your space there is a lot you need to consider. You want to make sure the size and shape of your mirror not only fit your design aesthetic, but also fit your space.
Here are some basic rules of thumb to consider as you start to narrow down your mirror selection.
Size. The size of your mirror will depend on where you are placing it inside your home. Will it be going in your bathroom, over a piece of furniture, or in a home office? If you are putting a mirror over a piece of furniture you want to select a mirror that is a few inches shorter than the piece of furniture. This way you can easily layer your mirror with a lamp, and other décor items. This will help create a balanced focal point in your design.
Shape. There are endless possibilities when it comes to the shape of your mirror. Don’t be afraid to explore your options and play with more unconventional selections. A mirror can be a great way to add some contrast to your space. We are currently loving all of the round flat mirror selections that are trending.
Style. Mirror style’s will vary depending on the elements you have in your space. You want your style to reflect your aesthetic, while complementing the current elements in your room. Consider trying out multiple shapes and sizes until you find one that fits your style.
Picking out the mirror grade. We tend to find ourselves scrolling through social media trying to find our ideal home décor items. When you are looking at products online you want to make sure you check the details section to make sure you are receiving the right grade for your room. Depending on if you are placing your mirror in a bathroom, bedroom or living room the mirror grade will vary. Especially if you are searching for a bathroom mirror. You want to make sure the mirror is “Bath Rated,” shatterproof, plated NOT painted, and easy to hang.
What are some of your favorite mirror trends? We love to see our clients think outside of the box, and go bold with their mirror selections. Don’t be afraid to play with the shape and size of your mirror, add a vintage twist, and think outside of the box.
